Have you ever wanted to grow your online business but think it’s just
too much of a hassle or that it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg or
just plain feel like a fish out of water and don’t know where to start?
While you can easily feel overwhelmed at first, in reality you don’t need to be an Internet guru to be successful. In fact, what you really need to is to start paying attention and then become an artful thief.
Let me explain…
What I’m about to show you is one way that you can leverage the Internet’s power to grow your coaching business.
If you’ve ever spent time surfing the Internet, chances are that at some point you’ve signed up to receive a newsletter, a free report or to get something that interests you. Of course you have, unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere. If the website owners know what they’re doing, and most don’t, once you hit that “Submit” button something very special happens…essentially, you’ve been “hooked.”
What does this mean? Let’s get to that.
What you may not be aware of, because it’s not apparent (and because most of us don’t really pay attention), is that once you click the submit button, it’s like giving permission to the website to communicate with you.
When you think about it, this opens all sorts of doors for online businesses to market their products and services to you. And they will keep on marketing to you until you decide to get off their mailing list or until you buy something they offer you.
A lot of Internet merchants know what your lifetime value is to them and if they can keep you on their list long enough, they know that it’s likely they’ll be able to sell you something.
Does this mean that once you get someone’s email address you can start sending them crap?
No, it doesn’t. In fact, if you do, people will eventually stay away from you like the plague. And believe me once you’ve lost your credibility and your client’s trust, it’s over.
What mostly happens is that people don’t really know what to offer their prospects or clients. People also have a tendency to shy away from selling. But the truth is, if you have something to offer that will improve or serve your client’s lives, you’d be doing them a disservice by not selling to them.
The first thing to do is to subscribe to some email lists. I suggest you get on as many as you can; as soon as you do, you’re going to start receiving a barrage of emails that will probably have you pulling your hair out. Don’t worry; I know that you don’t want to clog your personal email, so open a new email address that you’ll only use for these purposes.
Let the emails pile up for a week or so, and then start reading them. Notice the subject lines, the content, how the text is arranged, the time frames between emails, the offers, etc. What will happen is that you’ll start noticing patterns, and once you figure out what’s working for other people taking the next step is easy.
Rather than coming up with something from scratch, you’re going to start by modeling systems that are already working. This is a much better idea, less time consuming and easier.
And it will allow you to start growing and nurturing your client list, which is critical if you ever want to make money online (there are of course other ways, but this is one of the best).
To recap, if you want to grow your online business you need a system in place to be able to communicate with your clients. To do so, “model” don’t create; in other words, look to what’s already working for other people and model your own system from that.
